Trailers that don't do their job

Coming up soon I will have a review of Ocean's Twelve, but until then I wanted to share the fact that I saw this teaser trailer in front of that film and I can't remember the last time I saw a teaser trailer that so turned me off of a film I was otherwise eager to see.

I second this observation! Is it just me or does Johnny Depp look simply creepy, lacking any of Gene Wilder's fox-like charm? What a misfire of judgment. I remember loudly laughing at the rumor Marylin Manson would play Wonka -- what a fool I was! In my case, I'll loudly complain about the film and then not see it. Yet again Hollywood makes the tragic mistake of not consulting me before making a movie. They should have written an entirely new script with Charlie as the "CEO" of a modernized Wonka Industries, and his search for a replacement -- this time through video games, electronic toys, the Internet, etc. Then Wilder could have made a guest appearance as Wonka himself, and the story would be relevant for a modern audience. The idea that kids now would lust for candy is ridiculous, even in a "retro-futuristic" treatment of the film.

I couldn't disagree more about the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory trailer.

I was eager to see Burton's take on the story, but I wasn't really excited until I saw the teaser. It looks like the book to me. Depp is Wonka as Dahl imagined him. That's not to take anything away from the first movie (which might be my favorite musical ever) or Gene Wilder's performance (which is probably the best of his career). It's clear to me Burton and company have respect for both the source work and the first interpretation and aimed to do the former justice while creating something that can coexisting with the latter.

In a nutshell, you're wrong, Perry. You actually really liked the trailer and can't wait to see the movie. Sorry.

Matthew, dear Matthew, stop trying to delude me. All your powers of delusion must be used to keep convincing yourself that Big Fish is a good movie.

Hey, that's nothing. I even liked Planet of the Apes.

Will Ferrell would've made a good Willy Wonka. Maybe it's the curly 'fro.
